Olympic Games

The Greek officials and public were enthusiastic about the experience of hosting these Games. This feeling was shared by many of the athletes, who even demanded that Athens be the host of the Olympic Games on a permanent basis. The IOC did not approve this request. The committee planned that the modern Olympics would rotate internationally. They consequently

Symbols

The Olympic Movement uses symbols to represent the ideals embodied in the Olympic Charter. The Olympic symbol, better known as the Olympic rings, consists of five intertwined rings and represents the unity of the five inhabited continents (Africa, America, Asia, Australia, Europe). The colored version of the rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red—over a white field forms the Olympic flag. These colors were chosen because every nation had at least one of them on its national flag. The flag was adopted in 1914 but flown for the first time only at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp,Belgium. It has since been hoisted during each celebration of the Games.[98]
The Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius, a Latin expression meaning "Faster, Higher, Stronger". Coubertin's ideals are further expressed in theOlympic creed:
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.[98]

Ceremonies

Opening

As mandated by the Olympic Charter, various elements frame the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.[102][103] Most of these rituals were established at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp.[104] The ceremony typically starts with the hoisting of the host country's flag and a performance of its national anthem.[102][103] The host nation then presents artistic displays of music, singing, dance, and theater representative of its culture.[104] The artistic presentations have grown in scale and complexity as successive hosts attempt to provide a ceremony that outlasts its predecessor's in terms of memorability. The opening ceremony of the Beijing Games reportedly cost $100 million, with much of the cost incurred in the artistic segment.

Closing

The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games takes place after all sporting events have concluded. Flag-bearers from each participating country enter the stadium, followed by the athletes who enter together, without any national distinction.[106] Three national flags are hoisted while the corresponding national anthems are played: the flag of the current host country; the flag of Greece, to honor the birthplace of the Olympic Games; and the flag of the country hosting the next Summer or Winter Olympic Games.

Olympic Games

The Olympic Games were born in Olympia with a sacred character; festival was dedicated to the god Zeus in a religious compound. They emerged a nascent national consciousness that kind PanHellenic and preserved through the centuries. These festivals religion joined the sports, music and literary events to honor the gods of antiquity. The first Olympic Games on record took place in 776 BC and since then has been happening every four years until 393 d. C., the date on which the Roman emperor Theodosius decided to suppress its pagan character. The total is 293 Olympics, that is, many times when the Greeks agreed to renounce war to meet the goal of worshiping the gods of Olympus measuring their forces in a peaceful and regulated. In Greece were not the only events, but as important were those that became the starting point of the Hellenic calendar. Always held during the second or third full moon after the summer solstice. Months before the start roaming the cities heralds announcing the start date, each city choosing their representatives. A month before beginning the sacred truce during which paralyzed all military conflicts, bearing in mind that if you violate this peace could not be allowed to participate. Those who came to Olympia in those days were spectators and players in the biggest show of ancient Greece.

SIMPLE PAST on PhotoPeach

Definition

The Simple Past is the Past tense is used for:

Describe the actions that took place in a given time in the past,
Past events that have been completed but whose precise timing is not mentioned, as well as for ...
Describe routines performed before.
Rules

To describe past actions or routines, you need to know the difference between the 2 types of verbs regulars and irregulars.

Regular Verbs
For regular verbs, we have:

If the verb ends in a consonant, you must add the ending "-ed"
If the verb ends in "-e", you should only add the "-d" at the end.
If the regular verb ends in-y, and that letter is preceded by a consonant, change the particle-and-ied.
If the last syllable of the verb, is where the accent falls and it is composed of consonant-vowel-consonant, this consonant be doubled then add "-ed".
If the verb ends in "-l", it should be double and add "-ed".
Irregular Verbs
There are verbs in English, which you can not give the ending "-ed", and then, one must know which is the last of a particular verb in the infinitive.

Similarly, you should use the appropriate expressions of time to shape the simple past.

However, in sentence formation, should be taken into account some considerations, but I must say that such action is quite simple, once you have studied verbs and their past forms.

In the case of claims, after we have sealed the subject, you must put the past tense (without adding any "-s" to third parties as in this simple), followed them, they will complement and due expression of time.

In the case of denials, we add between subject and verb, the auxiliary "did not", as the latter is the last of "do" is unnecessary and wrong (grammatically speaking) to the past tense and that we put into this. For questions, the auxiliary "did" was located before the whole sentence, followed by the subject and the verb again in this, because remember, the auxiliary and tells us that time is past
